Wages & conditions
Many jobs are now governed by the Federal workplace relations system, which includes modern awards and the National Employment Standards (NES). The NES sets out 10 minimum workplace standards which apply to all employers and employees covered by the national system from 1 January 2010. Only certain standards apply to casual employees.
Some workplaces and individuals are covered by an agreement that sets out wages and conditions of employment.
Written contracts of employment can also set out wages and conditions for employees not covered by an award or agreement.
As an employer, you will need to determine if the new workplace relations system affects you and understand how it applies to you and your staff. For more information about minimum rates of pay and conditions under this system, view the pay, leave and conditions page on the Fair Work Online website.
